PM Modi in Gujarat: Inaugurates Sudarshan Setu, India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Dwarka
On February 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Sudarshan Setu, also known as the Signature Bridge, connecting Okha and Beyt near the pilgrimage destination of Dwarka. This bridge, named Sudarshan Setu, is the longest cable-stayed bridge in India, spanning about 2.32 kilometers. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel joined Prime Minister Modi during the inauguration ceremony.
The bridge connects the Okha mainland to Beyt Dwarka in Gujarat. Beyt Dwarka is an island close to the Okha port, about 30 km away from Dwarka town where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna is located.
Previously known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ it has been renamed ‘Sudarshan Setu’ or Sudarshan Bridge. Construction of the bridge started in 2017 with a groundbreaking ceremony led by the Centre. Its purpose is to make it easier for devotees traveling between Okha and Bet Dwarka. Before this bridge, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach the Dwarkadhish Temple in Beyt Dwarka.
