Swami Vivekananda: Swami Vivekananda, originally named Narendranath Datta, was a prominent disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna. He was born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata, India. Vivekananda played a key role in introducing Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is known for his powerful speeches on Hindu philosophy and spirituality.
After the death of his guru, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission to propagate the teachings of his guru and serve humanity. His famous speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893 marked his debut on the international stage, where he introduced Hinduism to the West with his message of tolerance, universal acceptance, and the harmony of religions.
Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902, at the young age of 39, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire millions worldwide. His teachings on selfless service, harmony of religions, and the spiritual unity of humanity remain relevant and influential to this day.

Swami Vivekananda death: Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902, while he was deep in meditation. His followers believe he achieved Mahasamadhi, a state where a spiritual master leaves their body consciously. It’s said he might have died from blood vessel problems in his brain.
Vivekananda had predicted he wouldn’t live past forty years old. His body was cremated on the banks of the Ganga River in Belur, in the same place where his guru Ramakrishna was cremated sixteen years earlier.
Tribute to Swami Vivekananda
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary. He wrote on social media, “I pay homage to Swami Vivekananda on his Punya Tithi. His teachings inspire millions. His deep wisdom and unwavering quest for knowledge are truly motivating. We are committed to realizing his vision of a prosperous and progressive society.”
West Bengal Chief Minister also paid tribute to Vivekananda. She wrote, “Remembering Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary today. My tributes to the great monk-patriot, who taught us to love our religion and country without division or bias.”
Swami Vivekananda traveled extensively across the United States, England, and Europe, giving speeches to promote Hindu philosophy. In 1899, he founded Belur Math in India, where he later passed away in 1902.
He spread the teachings of Vedanta philosophy in the West and established the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission to help the poor. His fame grew after his powerful speech at the 1893 Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where he began with the words “Sisters and brothers of America…” This speech received a standing ovation and remains memorable even today.
Though he lived a short life, Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and vision continue to influence millions of people worldwide.
